Hey there, wanderluster!

Thinking about visiting Portugal this spring? First of all, great choice. April, May, and June are some of the best months to explore Lisbon and beyond. The weather is friendly (not too hot or cold), the flowers are showing off, and the vibes? Immaculate.

Let me walk you through how to squeeze the most joy, flavour, and beauty out of your spring trip—with some insider tips, of course.

Start in Lisbon: Charm around every corner

Lisbon in spring is like a movie set: sunny skies, jacaranda trees blooming purple, and the smell of grilled sardines slowly creeping into your heart.

  • Wander Through Alfama: Get lost (intentionally) in the narrow cobbled streets of Alfama. It's where you feel Lisbon’s soul.

  • Sip & Chill in Esplanadas: Grab a table at a sunny esplanada (terrace) in Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré. Order a glass of vinho verde and some petiscos. Watch life unfold.

  • Ride Tram 28: Yes, it’s touristy. But it's also iconic. Jump on early in the morning to avoid the crowds, and let the city roll by.

  • Try the Pastel de Nata: Warm, flaky, with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Head to Pastéis de Belém and don’t look back.

April: Easter in Portugal — Faith, Family and Folar

If you're visiting during Easter, you're in for a meaningful (and delicious) experience.

  • Attend a Local Easter Procession: Towns like Lisbon, Óbidos, Évora and Braga hold traditional processions filled with symbolism and soul.

  • Try Easter Sweets: Ask for folar, a sweet bread that often has whole eggs baked into it. Sounds weird? Tastes amazing.

May: beach weather, but make it chill

This is when the beaches start whispering your name.

  • Caparica: Just across the bridge, perfect for a surf or a relaxed sunbath. Less crowded than the Algarve, equally stunning.

  • Guincho Beach: Near Cascais, it’s wild, windy, and cinematic. Pack a jacket, the breeze is no joke.

  • Arrábida + Boat Tour: Now this is a hidden gem.

Where emerald mountains meet crystal-clear waters, Arrábida is one of those places that feels almost too beautiful to be real. Hop on a boat for an unforgettable dolphin-watching experience (yes, real dolphins!), enjoy a relaxed seaside lunch, and —if you’re up for it—add a wine tasting at a local estate. Trust me, you’ll talk about it for years.

Pro Tip? I can take care of it all on a private day tour—no maps, no stress.

June: Santos Populares — Lisbon knows how to party!

If you’ve never danced in the streets with a sardine sandwich in one hand and sangria in the other, June is your chance.

  • Santo António Festival (June 12-13): Lisbon becomes one big street party. Especially in Alfama and Graça. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare to fall in love with the chaos.

  • Sardines on the Grill: Yes, you’ll smell like smoke. Yes, you’ll love it.

  • Colourful Decor: Paper lanterns, streamers, and music everywhere. The whole city comes alive.

But here’s the secret most tourists don’t know: Lisbon doesn’t party for just one night—she celebrates all month long. From June 1st to the very last weekend, every bairro (neighbourhood) has its mini festival, called a bailarico.

Each weekend brings a new corner of the city to life with music, food, dancing, and that contagious festive spirit. So even if you miss the 12th and 13th, you can still soak in the magic of the Santos Populares any weekend in June.

No planning needed—just follow the music and let Lisbon do the rest.

Why is Spring so Perfect?

  • Crowds? Manageable.

  • Prices? Friendlier.

  • Weather? Chef’s kiss.

  • Nature? Alive.

And let’s not forget the light.

Springtime in Portugal has a golden glow that makes everything look like it belongs on a postcard.

Take a Day Trip (or Two): The Peppe way

You didn’t come to Portugal to see only Lisbon, right?

  • Sintra & Cascais Tour: Palaces, gardens, ocean views, and pastel de travesseiro? Say less. I’ll guide you through Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, and we’ll end the day by the sea.

  • Fátima, Nazaré & Óbidos: Spiritual peace, monster waves, and medieval charm in one perfect day. You won't regret it.

  • Évora & the Cork Trees: History, wine, and a side of something unexpected.

  • Setúbal - Palmela: Wine, views, and the stunning Arrábida coastline — with dolphins if we’re lucky. It’s the kind of day that makes you fall in love with Portugal all over again.

  • Remember: I can also take you on a Lisbon half day tour — quick, fun, and packed with hidden gems only a local would know
